Probably the smallest (and cutest) granny flat we’ve ever managed is this 1 bedroom backyard cottage in Manly, which is in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It was designed to accommodate the Owner’s newly-wed son and daughter in-law. They really wanted something simple yet affordable and functional. This northern beaches granny flat is skillion roofed (flat roof) and was sited between the in-ground swimming pool and the existing dwelling. The property is also situated in a Bush-Fire Zone (BAL-25) so we had to design it comply with the ‘ NSW Planning for Bush-Fire Controls’ and all relevant Australian Standards for protection from bushfires.
